FAQs
Below you will find the answers to the questions we are most commonly asked about SmartSlat and its uses.
Can we buy pre-assembled products (i.e. gates) direct from SmartSlat?
Yes, SmartSlat has designed SmartSlat predominately for the DIY slatting market however some manufacturers use the SmartSlat steel slats to manufacture slatted gates and fences. So check out our list of suppliers.
What do I use to cut the slats
Any cold cold cut method can be used. We use a Makita LC1230 saw and you can quote this number to your tool shop and they can recommend a similar tool or blade for cutting ferrous metal. Note you should always use the correct safety equipment and have the appropriate training before using any power tools.
How far apart should my uprights or supports be
You need to consider the area you are using it in for example Kids kicking footballs around the yard or up high where it will not be touched. However the more support you give the slats the better your slatting project will be. We think 800mm-1000mm to be a good range but these supports need not be posts. If you want to get grater spans you could use the method described in the how to's page. Click on link (How to assemble SmartSlat kit panel). The slatted panel on this page is three metres long.
Can I attach SmartSlat to a wooden post?
Yes you can attach your SmartSlat steel slatting to any type of material
What type of fasteners should I use?
Class 3, 10 gauge tek screws are recommended for both wood and steel when fixing directly to the posts.
What is SmartSlat made off?
SmartSlat slatting is made of steel.
