How to assemble aSmartSlat Kit slatting panel

Assembling a SmartSlat steel slatting panel is made easy by the Smartslat construction method and we believe that not only those with good construction skills can build great looking slatting fence and screening panels and fencing, but even those with fairly basic skills could accomplish similar results. Below are photos of the steps which we used, the following steps should enable most people to build their own slatting panels. The steps below can be reversed and the fence built in position. Just fit the rails to the posts then fit the uprights then add the slats.

  • (Step 1 Photo 1) Peel the plastic off the inner section of the the 55 mm upright slats and lay them face up in position, this would be at least 50mm from the end of the horizontal slats so the rivets do not interfere with the end caps if they are to be used.
  • (Step 2 Photo 4) Peel the plastic off the inner part of the horizontal slat and lay them face down on top of the 40mm upright slats.
  • (Step 3 Photo 2) Rivet the top and bottom horizontal slats to the uprights with one rivet only positioned so as not to interfere with the end caps which will be fitted later. Before riveting be sure that the uprights are in the correct position and square to the horizontal slats (Photo 3).
  • (Step 4 Photo 4) Now you can set the gaps on the rest of the slats and rivet them in position.
  • (Step 5 Photo 5) Turn the panel over and fit the end caps to the uprights (Photo 7) and fit the cover to the up right slats, note you only need to peel the plastic on the covers back about 100mm as any plastic left on continues to protect the slat.
  • (Step 6 Photo 6) Turn the panel back over and fit all but the top and bottom slat covers again leave the plastic on at this stage.
  • (Step 7 ) Now lay the RHS (Tube steel) under the top and bottom horizontal slats ensuring that they are parallel to the horizontal slats .Then fasten these rails through the horizontal and upright salts (Photo 8) with a Tek screw.
  • (Step 8) Fit the last of the slat covers and fit any end caps that are to be used and you are done.
  • (Step 9) Fit the panel in position and fasten in place using the rail flanges. (Photo 9)
  • (Step 10) Now just remove all the remaining plastic and you are done. (Photo 10)

Note although we used two heavy duty rivets per joint you don't see any rivets front or back on the finished panel.

If you are not quite sure just lay the whole panel out without drilling anything and still with the plastic on and you will be able to get a good idea of how it goes together before you start.

Remember you can buy the panels pre assembled and delivered anywhere in Australia
